Abstract


Volcanic ash has long been highlighted in volcanic eruptions, not only because it affects the health and activities surrounding mountains but also for flight safety. The existence of volcano activity in West Sumatera in early June 2017 in the form of eruption up to several times a special concern regarding the spread of volcanic ash whether it is potentially disrupt the activities of flights around the area or not. In this study, the data used is a product of Himawari-8 satellite with RGB method to identify the spread of volcanic ash. The event was observed on June 3th - 6th, 2017 and displayed through pictures every 3 hours. The use of the Himawari-8 satellite image is good enough to see the spread of volcanic ash in fine weather but if cloudy conditions cannot be detected.
