Abstract

Anemia is functionally defined as a decrease in the red blood cell mass that can not fulfill to bring sufficient amounts of oxygen to the peripheral tissues. Annona muricata, L. leaf contains  flavonoid which possibly posses an effect to increase hemoglobin level. This study aims to examine the effect of  Annona muricata L. leaf infusion to increase the hemoglobin level on anemic mice model. This was an experimental study pretest and post test only control group design consisting of six treatment groups, three groups for preventive and curative groups respectively. Each group consists of the positive control (vitamin E), the dose of Annona muricata L. leaves infusion are 2.4% w/v and 4.8% w/v. The difference pre test and post test data hemoglobin and reticulocyte, are analyzed by SPSS 15.0 programs for Windows with two-way ANOVA and followed by LSD test. The results of this study indicated that the curative groups were more effective than preventive groups in raising the hemoglobin and lowering the reticulocyte. Based on the two-way ANOVA test, the infusion dose of Annona muricata L. leaves of 2.4% w/v and 4.8% w/v and vitamin E had significance different, p-val = 0,000 (CI : 95%), its meant that infusion of  Annona muricata L. leaves of 2.4% w/v and 4.8% w/v have an influence on the increase of the level of hemoglobin and decrease in reticulocyte that were proportionate with vitamin E. p val : 0,000 (CI: 95%)
